Joymont Kennels resides in the leafy suburbs of Ashburton in Melbourne, Australia. Cathy Scotton a Canadian came to Australia in 1979 and purchased her first Cairn Birch from Betty Hart of Skyeway kennels in South Australia .
Cathy comes from a three generation dog showing family. Her grandfather bred and exhibited English Setters with his sisters breed and exhibited Irish Setters and English Cockers.
Her dad helped handle dogs from an early age but due to World War 2 and work commitments didn’t continue. The family was always given dogs over the the years when needed by her Grandfather who was involved with the Montreal Kennel Club. Cathy remembers her family having an English Setter in the prairies of Manitoba then a Rough Coated Collie and finally a Beagle in Ottawa.
After marrying and moving to Lansing, Michigan for a year she discovered the wonders of a Cairn Terrier and getting one of her own was her first priority when arriving in Australia.
After visiting the Adelaide Royal and meeting Betty Hart (Skyeway) her first Cairn, Skyeway Cottage Joy was purchased in 1979. She was not the most successful show girl but proved herself in her progeny by producing Joymnt Cleo, Champion Joymont Kino and Champion Joymont Entry who is behind most of the top Joymont Winners of Today.

The next big winner was Champion Joymont Avon who had a wonderful show career with multiple Best in Shows at All Breeds and Specialties both at Joymont and with Brian McCowage in New South Wales. Mated to Champion Joymont Gold Ribbon a daughter of champion Joymont Kino they produced a wonderful litter of Champions with three males and a bitch shown. The three boys went on to win Best in shows and multiple Groups. They were Champion Joymont Storm Cloud, shown owned and exhibited by Vickie Thomas of Ballarat, Grand Champion Joymont Rain Master co-owned and exhibited by Susan Springer of Tasmania and Grand Champion Joymont Hudson shown by Cathy.
Over the years dogs and bitches introduced to Joymont have added to the breeding program. Negura Golden Twigs from George Ness of Queensland, Champion Penfillan Bassie from Betty Millhouse of South Asutralia, Champion Glendevie Strike up the Band from Goldenhills Kennels of Victoria, Champion Ieuandale Gold entry from Ieuandale kennels Victoria and Champion and Swedish Champion Sarimont Scorzonera from Maud Montgomery Sweden who came out in whelp to a Raskins dog.
From New Zealand came Trevlac Secret Rose and then from Sweden another import Grand Champion Rottriver’s Makes People Talk and his sister Champion Rottriver’s I’m Lovin It. from Krister Ohlander After a successful show career and a litter, “Loving It “returned to Sweden in whelp with progeny successfully shown in Germany.
In 2009 I was lucky to get two lovely dogs from Inger Hansson of Wictory Kennels in Sweden. Ch Wictory’s Ragamuffin a specialty winner and Ch Wictory Ragazza Rossa who has had some lovely winners both here and in Sweden.
In 2012 Hjohho’s Hjour My Dream Collection arrived from Sweden from Elizabeth Theodorson and has produced a lovey boy Ch Joymont Dream Catcher.
In 2015 we were lucky to get Swedish and Int Ch. Ch Rottriver’s the Invisible Man. At his first show he went Runner up in Group at the Canberra Royal. He continued to win more Royal Best of Breeds and has been invaluable in the Breeding program producing some lovely puppies.
Early in 2020 American Ch Rottriver’s Show Me The Money arrived. He had a successful show start in Sweden before going to Daphne Nimmons-Marvin for six months. Easily titled though a little large for the American standard. He has left two litters of promising puppies and is producing lovely puppies here at Joymont.
Here at Joymont the dogs live in a family atmosphere. We believe in keeping quality not quantity so that the dogs receive the greatest time and care, In Ashburton you will find the highest density of Cairns of anywhere in Australia. Such a wonderful family dog is easy to re-house and place in a wonderful family home. We believe that every Cairn needs its own family to love and be loved Therefore the numbers at home are always kept to minimum with most show and breeding dogs living a wonderful family life of their own with friends and neighbours. I am always looking for that next loving foster home who would like to be part of the show family.

Harry and Iris Glynn successfully campaigned Supreme Ch Joymont Diver Dan who had record Terrier wins in South Australia. They also titled Gr Ch Joymont Touch of Class and Supreme Ch Joymont Red Sunset. |

Liz Mansfield in Sydney had a wonderful time successfully showing some lovely dogs bred by Ginnette Loft. She had a super time titling and exhibiting Sup Ch Joymont Shaken not Stirred. She is now showing Ch Joymont Dare To Dream as well as her loved Wire and Welsh Terriers. |
In the past Grand Champion Joymont Jazzman had a wonderful career with Val Palmer of new South Wales and Lisa Marwich in Perth Australia successfully showed many Joymont Cairns. Debbie Champion of Victoria successfully showed many Joymont Cairns doing well with Grand Champion Joymont Chillie Pepper and Champion Joymont paper lace.
Judy and Jazmyn Kennon –Wray successfully titled and showed to great success Sup Ch and New Zealand Ch Joymont Eureka and Ch Joymont Frangelica.
Kelly Scott in Parks NSW a well known family of breeders and exhibitors of Fox Terriers took on a young male Cairn… and with great effort and learning a new skill of stripping Cairn coats turned a raw youngster into a multi Best in Show winner: Grand Ch Joymont Knight Rider. Sadly his career was cut short but not forgotton by a snake.
Joymont dogs have also been successfully shown in New Zealand, Finland, Sweden and Japan.
As of 2020 Joymont kennels have successfully shown 122 Champions, 26 Grand Champions, 12 Supreme Champions and 23 Best in Show winners. The breeding program is hopefully planning more in the future. Joymont Cairn Kennels is one of the most successful Terrier Kennels in Australia. Joymont kennels have successfully shown 105 Champions, 22 Grand Champions, 9 Supreme Champions and 24 Best in Show winners. The breeding program is hopefully planning more winners and loved family pets in the future. Joymont Cairn Kennels is one of the most successful Terrier Kennels in Australia.
JUDGING PROFILE As well as showing regularly especially at the main Royal shows and Breed Specialties, Cathy keeps busy judging.
Cathy is a licensed All Breeds Judge. As a Terrier Specialist she has judged Terrier specialties around the World. Other assignments have take her to New Zealand, South Korea, Thailand, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Italy, China, United States, Canada and all States of Australia.
